A cuppa, 2 new friends and a new leg

It was a really long tiring day. I wonder if i'm anaemic, there's simply no reason for the tiredness. Anyway, a friend came knocking on my door, she asked if i wanted to accompany her to a nearby Korean restaurant.

There were so many reasons not to go...
1. My plan was to hit the sack at 7pm.
2. The thought of walking 15 mins to get to this Korean restaurant wasn't too appealing at the time.
3. I had no money to eat there.
4. Korean food isnt exactly something i'm craving for at that moment.

But after much persuasion i went anyway.

After dinner, which was pleasant enough, I suddenly feltlike having a cuppa coffee. This is out of character, i'm more a tea drinker. But Starbucks is just around the corner. (once again, i dunno why i'm thinking of coffee since i didnt even have money to pay for dinner, the coffee would cost as much as the dinner itself!). We went. My friend too, is not into Starbucks, but tagged along.

As we sat and chatted, I can't help but notice 2 Indian-looking mother-and-daughter sitting near us. Having lived in India for 2 years, my immediate reaction to this is to introduce myself. This is again, a little out of character.

It seems they are of Indian origin but have lived in the Philippines for 17 years! As we chatted, we were all very amazed that the world is soooo small. We shared what we did as missionaries. And somewhere along the line, my friend mentioned a young girl who was coming regularly to our group. She has been walking on one leg for a long time.

And who would have known, our new found friends know of a foundation that helps people get new prostetic legs! Most of the costs have been subsidized and she need only to raise the S$100+ for basic x-rays and travelling expenses etc.

Since that fateful conversation, our young friend has come to Manila twice so far (travelling on a bus for 6 hours one way) for consultation and measurements. Soon, we will see her fitted with her new leg, it will certainly mean more freedom and a new lease of life.

Even as i reflected and thought through the whole process, it still gives me goosebumps thinking about it... If i was adament about having an early night, things would certainly have made a turn. If i was thinking only of my lack of finances (for coffee and other frills)... if i skipped dinner... IF... Thank God i didn't.

Who would have known a cup of coffee would lead to this? Thanks to you Ms Indu and Lakshika! Our new found friends!
